Math Lesson 1:
Basic Arithmetic
Introduction to Basic Arithmetic
In this lesson, we'll learn about the four basic arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These operations are the foundation of mathematics and are used in everyday life.
Addition (+)
Addition is the process of combining two or more numbers to get a sum. For example, 2 + 3 = 5.
Exercise: Addition
Try adding these numbers:
+ =Subtraction (-)
Subtraction is the process of taking away one number from another. For example, 5 - 2 = 3.
Exercise: Subtraction
Try subtracting these numbers:
- =Multiplication (×)
Multiplication is repeated addition. For example, 3 × 4 means adding 3 four times: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12.
Exercise: Multiplication
Try multiplying these numbers:
× =Division (÷)
Division is the process of splitting a number into equal parts. For example, 8 ÷ 2 = 4 because 8 can be split into two groups of 4.
Exercise: Division
Try dividing these numbers:
